Perhaps the California Nurses Association (CNA) would serve its limited membership better if they didn't mislead it and the

Community Hospital Nurses Vote to Join Union

About 250 registered nurses working at Community Hospital of Los Gatos voted Thursday night to join the California Nurses
Association. The vote, described by the CNA as a "landslide," unionizes the San Jose area's last non-union hospital. 72% of voters chose to join CNA, one
of the fastest-growing unions in the country, boasting some 70,000 members through its national affiliate.
Some Tri-City nurses petition to decertify union

A movement is afoot among some of Tri-City Medical Center's 700 registered nurses to leave the nursing union they joined in
2005. Doreen Sanderson, vice president of human resources at Tri-City, confirmed Monday that she received a petition from more than 240 Tri-City
registered nurses on Nov. 15. She added that the signatures represent 30 percent of the hospital's total nursing workforce, meeting the threshold for a
secret-ballot election within 90 days.

The nurses at Community Medical Center should get a chance to vote early next year on a proposal to unionize following a
ruling that determined who can participate in the election. The National Labor Relations Board issued a ruling that allows "charge" nurses — who act in a
supervisory capacity when nurse managers are not on a floor — to participate in the election.

A group of workers, who oppose unionization at Yale-New Haven Hospital, say no one is speaking for them and they want an
election as soon as possible to settle the issue. Some 15 long-term workers took a break from work Friday to talk about their jobs and their desire to keep
things as they are. "I don’t need the union to be a voice for me. I got a good nurse manager and that’s who I can go to," said Jannie Bittle, who has worked
at Y-NH for 34 years.
